Round 11 – Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Indianapolis, USA  For over one hundred years, the world’s greatest drivers have made their way to Speedway Indiana for a chance to known as champion. Throughout the century, less than 5,000 drivers have made their way across the yard of bricks, and now NorthAmF1000 Championship drivers are included in this elite club.

For over a week in late September, teams worked tirelessly to find those final few tenths around the iconic racetrack. After four days of qualifying, it was the Area 81 Racing #18 Waterfall Security Solutions Firman of Tim Pierce sitting on pole for the final round of the 2017 Championship.

Facing a 9 point deficit for second place in the championship behind the #9 Jason Slahor, Tim set off on a single mission, Win and pray for the best.

Behind Tim, Richard Franklin in the other Area 81 Racing team car, the #81 Waterfall Security Solutions Stohr, was working his way through the field, heading towards a podium finish, only to spin with a few laps remaining and come home in 6th.

When the checkered flag flew, Pierce would cross the bricks first, and celebrate with the traditional Indy milk. Initially thinking his points total put him third in the championship, Tim was informed of points for pole and fastest lap, elevating him, barely, into second. “I am honored to finish second in the inaugural NorthAmF1000 Championship… totally shocked”

Coming home in second, and solidifying fourth in the championship, the #93 CSI Leasing / EPCusa.com JDR of Steve Hamilton was elated after the race, “This season has been wonderful…. These cares are a lot of fun.”

Rounding out the podium for the final round, the #9 CItation of Jason Slahor did everything to stay ahead of Pierce for second in the championship, only to come up short by half a point. Coming home third in the inaugural championship still gave Jason over 1,000 reasons to celebrate, “losing second by half a point is tough, but this big check and the great racing all year make it a lot easier…. This has been a fantastic season, I can’t wait for 2018.”
