Vardis goes back2back – Hamilton takes over points lead

Following Friday practice, it was time for the random drawing awards and dinner social brought to you by EPCusa.com, with drivers, crew, sponsors, and fans gathering in NorthAm F1000 hospitality.

Saturday qualifying was a back and forth battle between Alex Mayer and Nicho Vardis for the MPT pole position – with Nicho coming out ahead by a few tenths.

Jumping out to the front going into turn 1, Mayer lead over half the race with Vardis glued to his rear wing.   Just past halfway Mayer would have engine issues and be forced to retire – leaving Nicho Vardis to take his second win of 2019 in the #08 JDR.  Mayer may not have taken the checkered flag – but did earn the Scott Young Enterprises Fastest Lap award – setting a new NorthAmF1000 track record in the process.

Joining Nicho on the podium for round 5 would be the #39 Parametric Solutions Inc. Piper of Joel Haas in 2nd place, and the #93 CSI Leasing / EPCusa.com JDR of Steve Hamilton would come home 3rd and earn the Sunoco Hard Charger award.

Sunday qualifying would be less of a battle, with Mayer not taking the track – Vardis would earn back to back MPT Pole Position awards and back to back race wins with little challenge.   Starting on the front row with Vardis, the 2018 Rookie of the Year – #12 MANTAC of Reilly Harris seemed poised to take advantage of his front row start – however a late race spin would put Harris down to 3rd place for Round 6.

Joining Vardis a0nd Harris on the podium in 2nd place would be the new driver’s championship points leader – #93 Steve Hamilton.

Join the NorthAmF1000 championship at Virginia International Raceway for Rounds 7 and 8 on July 27-28 – once again joined by F3 and F4.
