The greatest sounds in motorsports enter the National Park of speed to take on Elkhart Lake’s Road America in rounds 9 & 10 of the 2021 Championship.
Following over an hour of practice on Friday, drivers rolled out for go fast time on Saturday morning and once again it was Alex Mayer taking the MPT Industries pole position – with a new face on the front row – Steve Hamilton lining up alongside.
As the green flag flew, 3rd place qualifier Nathan Byrd would hit pitlane on the formation lap with a broken shift lever and be forced to retire. Jumping out to the early lead, Mayer would lead flag to flag to earn win #7 on the season and earn the Scott Young Enterprises Fastest Lap, followed by Steve Hamilton and the Sunoco hard charger – Reilly Harris rounding out the podium.
The results for Sunday would look very similar to Saturday, however results and lap charts rarely appear the same. With Mayer and Hamilton getting away early, it left Reilly Harris, Nathan Byrd, Doug Hertz, and Charles Livingston to battle it out for the final spot, and boy did they not disappoint. Lap after lap the three cars would trade spots multiple times per lap, including a few times under the double yellow, delaying the post race celebration for more than 30 minutes.
